Health Coach Answers: Part 5 of the mindfulness series. “How can I practice mindfulness?” To wrap up the mindfulness series I wanted to talk about self-care. This tends to be the ‘easiest’ practice of mindfulness yet so many of us struggle to make that time! First lets define what self-care is. The definition of self-care is “the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health. taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.” The beauty of self-care is it can be about anything. Where it gets challenging is finding outlets that benefit our health and well being. So many will say food is self-care and makes them happy but is that food benefiting your overall health truly long-term? If so, great, but if not, looking to other outlets could be beneficial for both health and self-care. So examples could be getting more sleep, more fresh air, taking time to relax, going on vacation, a hot shower, organizing, reading, gardening, or visiting with a friend. When thinking of what a self-care act could be for you think about all areas of self-care from physical, emotional, social and environmental. We can read all the resources on mindfulness but none if it matters if we do not know ‘HOW’ or if we do not have a tool/guide to help get started. That is where Mighty Health and your coach can help! If you are looking for a way to bring a bit more mindfulness into your life be sure to ask your coach or add the MINDFUL MARCH LESSON to your schedule. You will find an array of the tools I have talked about this month in the Mindful March Lesson.
